Maury Daniel Dade, U.S. custodianMaury Daniel "Sonny" Dade died Sept. 2 at Fauquier Hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1931, in Fauquier County to the late Maury M. and Virginia Dade of Warrenton. He was the oldest of five children.
He attended Rosenwald School in Fauquier County. Upon completion, he went to work with his father, where he learned the trade of carpentry.
After serving in the U.S. Army for three years, he started work for the United States Postal Service and later retired after 28 years of service, for a total of 31 years and 6 months working for the federal government. He also worked part-time for Sears and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity in Fauquier County.
After retiring, he did carpentry until he was no longer able.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ann V. Dade of Warrenton; four children, Robert Dade of Purcellville, Vivian Daniels of Dumfries, Yvonne Dade-Jones of Warrenton, and Stewart Dade of Manassas; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his stepmother, Marietta Dade, and two brothers, Clarke and Charles Dade, both of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Funeral services will begin at noon Wednesday, Sept. 10, at First Baptist Church, 39 Alexandria Pike, Warrenton with the Rev. Matthew A. Zimmerman Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Warrenton.
