2010 Grizzlies Give Back 5K

By lhunt@1stdegree.com

Gainesville, Virginia, August 24, 2010--- The Gainesville-Haymarket Youth Football League (Grizzly Football) will be conducting a fundraising and season kickoff event, August 28, 2010 at the Virginia Gateway Center, Gainesville, Virginia. This event will include a 5K, Community Street Fair, Carnival Rides, Live Entertainment and Parade of Teams. 5K Starts at 8am (registration onsite available) carnival-entertainment 9am-3pm. PUBLIC WELCOME!

Over 600 adults and youth are expected to run in the Grizzlies Give Back 5K. Each player and cheerleader collected donations to run in the Grizzly 5K and the league expects the fundraising to surpass the $55,000 raised in 2009.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Grizzly Field of Dreams Fund to build additional football fields in the community. Grizzly Football is the largest member league participating in Fairfax County Youth Football which is one of the largest in the nation. With 885 youth in the 2010 Fall Grizzly program, the league only has one football field in the entire community to conduct games. Over 80% of all Grizzly Football games have to be conducted in other parts of Prince William County and Fairfax County.

A portion of the proceeds raised by the players and cheerleaders will be donated to support local youth charities including Youth for Tomorrow founded by Joe Gibbs. Youth for Tomorrow is located minutes away from the venue and provides a safe, healthy, and compassionate environment for at-risk youth who have been abandoned, abused, or otherwise alienated from family and community.
