Haymarket Quilters present quilt to Town Hall
The members of the Haymarket Chapter of Quilters Unlimited have presented a quilt to the Town of Haymarket to be displayed in the Town Hall for viewing by the general public.
The idea of a town quilt began last fall and designing began in January after the group consulted with Town Manger Gene Swearingen and town historian Ellie Ivancic.
In June, the fabrics and elements were selected and distributed to 23 quilters.
The quilt was completed in August with the hand-quilted sections requiring 55 hours.
In a letter to the town, the organization said “This quilt demonstrates our appreciation for Haymarket and will be a visual reminder of the historical importance of the town and many buildings that are still in use today. Haymarket was a center of community events for the surrounding area with the natural beauty of Bull Run Mountains in the back ground.”
“As members of Haymarket Quilters, we really enjoy holding some of our events here in the center of town, where we can easily walk to and support the shops and restaurants. We hope you and our Haymarket community will enjoy this quilt for many years to come. It has been our great pleasure to make this contribution to Haymarket.”
The letter is signed by Linda Jamrogowicz, president of the group, along with Pat Widener, Stevii Graves, Carol Proven, Dolly Krach, Liz Sampson, Cindy Simms, Betty Ratliff and Joyce Tobias.
