BHS girls claim first-ever lax title

The Battlefield girls lacrosse team clinched its first-ever regular season Cedar Run District title Friday evening in Haymarket as the Bobcats defeated rival Loudoun Valley 12-9.

Battlefield's two wins against the Vikings (11-2 overall, 4-2 district) this season marked the first time the Bobcats (9-3 overall, 6-0 district) ever topped the Vikings, let alone twice. Most importantly for Battlefield , the win assures the team of another first: home-field advantage during the district playoffs.

A district tournament title would likely give Battlefield home field advantage throughout the regional tournament as well.

The last game of the regular season is set for Monday at Battlefield. The Bobcats are set to take on Heritage during the game that honors the team's graduating class of 2011.

Check out the May 12 edition of The Gainesville Times for a full recap of Friday night's game and for a preview of what's to come for the Bobcats in the post-season.
