BHS girls join boys as regional lax champs

The Battlefield girls lacrosse team continued its precedent-setting season in grand fashion Wednesday night in Manassas, outlasting host Osbourn Park 12-10 in the Northwest Regional tournament championship.

Senior Morgan Clark led the Bobcats with five goals while Sara Jacobson had three. For OP, freshman phenom Corrine Wessels came away with six goals, including one no-look, behind-the-back shot in the second half that wowed the Yellow Jackets' audience and stunned the Bobcats.

The win for Battlefield comes after the team finished second place in the Cedar Run District tournament despite winning the regular season district title. This is the first time the program has ever won the regional tournament and comes five days after the Battlefield boys team topped Albemarle for the same honors.

Battlefield now advances to the state tournament and will play host in the quarterfinals on Friday. A full recap of the game and more will be available in the June 9 edition of The Gainesville Times.
