Haymarket man charged with attempted murder of police officer
Attempted Capital Murder of a Police Officer *ARREST
Warrants have been obtained on the husband in reference to the below incident. The accused is currently being treated for his injuries which consisted of a gunshot wound to the right hand. Police have confirmed that the accused was shot by an officer. Route 15 at both locations have been cleared and is reopened. The officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave. Photos have been attached which portray a round that had been fired by the accused towards a police cruiser. Officers had just exited the cruiser as the round struck the windshield.

Jason Michael PAUL, 38, of Wheelwright Way in Haymarket
Charged with 5 counts of attempted capital murder, 1 count of attempted aggravated malicious wounding, 1 count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, 6 counts of the use of a firearm in commission of a felony, 1 count of felony eluding and 1 count of destruction of property

On January 02nd at 12:57AM, police responded to the 5600 block of Wheelwright Way in Haymarket (20169) for a report of a domestic with weapons. The initial call into police stated that shots were fired within the residence between husband and wife. When police arrived, the husband left the area at a high rate of speed in a Hyundai Sante Fe. Police attempted to stop the vehicle which the husband ignored and a pursuit ensued. The husband struck a median at Route 15 and Dominion Valley Dr and stopped in the intersection. At that time, the husband exited the vehicle and opened fire on police. Police returned fired on the husband before he reentered the vehicle and continued down Route 15. The husband then stopped at Route 15 just prior to Sudley Rd where he opened fire on police a second time. Police returned fire again before the husband complied with commands and was taken into custody. The husband sustained an injury to the hand as a result of the incident and was ground transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured. The wife was not injured.
