Crash on Logmill Road kills BHS teenager, injures four

A crash off of Logmill Road in northern Haymarket early Wednesday killed one Battlefield High School student and left four other students with severe injuries following a collision with a deer and a tree.

According to Prince William County Police Officer Jonathan Perok, police responded to the area of Logmill Road "just west" of U.S. 15 at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday for a single vehicle crash. A preliminary investigation "revealed" that the 18-year-old male driver of a 2005 Dodge Magnum was traveling westbound on Logmill Road when the car "struck a deer that crossed its path," Perok said in a statement. "That collision caused the driver to lose control and strike a tree."

A 15-year-old female passenger "was pronounced dead at the scene." Perok said. "The other four occupants were all flown to an area hospital for critical injuries. Speed was a factor in this crash. None of the occupants were wearing a seat belt at the time of the
collision. Police are still working to confirm identities of the occupants."

Perok's report states that the occupants were identified as a 14-year-old female, a 15-year-old female and a 17-year-old male.

Logmill Road is the same road where one Battlefield student and one Battlefield graduate died following a crash in August 2010.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated throughout the day.
