SAT scores on the rise in PW
Divisionwide, scores on the SAT for Prince William seniors increased 9 points last year in the categories of critical reading, math. The Class of 2010 had an average of 1508, up from the Class of 2009 in Prince William.
County student scores increased by six points in math, two points in critical reading, and one point in writing. The county showed an overall increase, while the total score remained the same for both Virginia and the nation.
Each section of the SAT is scored on a scale of 200 to 800. The county's average score of 509 in reading exceeded the national average score of 501. The average score for Prince William students in writing (494) was slightly above the national average (492).
The average score for critical reading achieved by students in six of Prince William County’s 10 high schools exceeded the national average of 501 in 2009-2010. The schools are Battlefield (520), Brentsville (537), Forest Park (526), Hylton (506), Osbourn Park (535), and Woodbridge (508) High Schools.
The average scores for students from Battlefield, Brentsville, and Osbourn Park exceeded the national and state averages for reading, math and writing in 2009-10.
