Battlefield band to compete

Battlefield High School will be among 11 high school marching bands from across Virginia competing in the Shenandoah Valley Marching Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 3 to 10 p.m. at Broadway High School. The competition features bands performing shows that combine music, precision marching, color guard routines, dance and theatrics.

The competition is composed of two parts. In preliminary performances, bands will be graded by judges in music, visual, and general effect categories. Each ensemble will also receive comments and instruction from a clinic judge.

Awards will be presented in five different divisions, based on the number of performers in each band.

The finals performances will feature top-placing bands regardless of class, again judged in categories of music, visual, and general effect. The highest-rated bands in the finals competition will receive cash prizes.

Tickets for the Shenandoah Valley Marching Invitational are $5 each, with children 10 and under admitted free of charge. Broadway High School is located at 269 Gobbler Drive.
