Battlefield sweeps cross country districts

The Battlefield cross country program may have had one of its finest moments in the school's post-season history last week by running away with four titles at the Cedar Run District championship.

Freshman Haben Zemichael (16:44) led the boys to a 41-point win over second place finisher Loudoun Valley at the Leesburg meet while sophomore Nicole Carter (19:58) boosted the girls to a 27-point victory over No. 2 Heritage.

In all, the boys captured four out of the top five spots, all of which are factored into the final point total. Six of Battlefield's runners secured top 10 finishes for both the boys and girls. Three of the girls ended up in the top five.

Sophomores Connor Lee (17:25) and Luke Mazzu (17:29) clinched third and fourth place and seniors Nathan Moyer (17:54) and Sean Domintrovits (17:57) rounded out Battlefield's top five with sixth- and seventh-place finishes.

Senior Marina Capalbo (20:37) and sophomore Hannah Schwennesen (20:58) clocked in fourth and fifth for the girls overall. Their teammates Rachel Thompson (21:05) and Sarai Arbus (21:27) ended up seventh and ninth in the field for Battlefield to complete the BHS top five.

Sophomore Kristen Loehle (21:32) and senior Owen Malinowski (17:59) both checked in tenth place overall for Battlefield and were the sixth fastest on their teams. Sophomore Cameron Henken (18:00) finished one second behind Malinowski and Abby Peach (21:42) came in 10 seconds behind Loehle.
