Haymarket marches on melanoma

Hundreds turned out in Haymarket last Saturday for the March on Melanoma. The 5K was a fundraiser for Tim Dooley, an Old Dominion Baseball League coach who has melanoma.

The March on Melanoma Foundation reported that they raised more than $20,000 from the event.

Proceeds will benefit the Dooley Campaign to support the Dooley family, and also to fund melanoma prevention and education in the Gainesville - Haymarket area.

According to the Mayo Clinic, melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. The exact cause isn't clear but the risk increases greatly with exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun or from tanning beds.
