Gainesville, Sudley students head out for ED OUT

Students from Gainesville Middle and Sudley Elementary were the first to participate in the Prince William school system's new ED OUT: Head Outdoors for Education and Fun program. The one-day pilot program, held on June 4, gave fourth- and seventh-grade students a chance to play and learn at Camp William B. Snyder in Haymarket.

Approximately 500 students took part in the program, learning about environmentalism and getting exercise.

The school system partnered with the U.S. Forest Service, the American Recreation Council, National Wildlife Federation, Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation and other agencies, businesses and groups to launch the program.

School officials hope that the program can be duplicated at individual schools, giving students on-site outdoor activities without leaving the school grounds.
