Gainesville dancers see the big time

Dancers from Gainesville Dance Center traveled to Atlantic City, N.J. in January to attend the Pulse On Tour dance convention. The convention featured choreographers from the dance reality TV show “So You Think You Can Dance,” as well as Broadway shows and movies.

The 23 Gainesville dancers were among thousands of dancers from all over the East Coast who attended the prestigious convention to learn from top dance artists.

The dancers took back-to-back classes for two full days, followed by a showcase performance by dancers chosen during the convention. Gainesville Dance Center's Paige Reaman was chosen for the modeling portion of the showcase and also received two scholarships.

The students who attended are Courtney Shomaker, Margaret Bean, Jaclyn Hamric, Hana Terrell, Allison Wooldridge, Briana Idrizi, Carly Piotrowski, Erin Coakley, Abby Smith, Emily Powell, Michaela Sedlak, Sarah Wooldridge, Paige Reaman, Amber Wallace, Lauren Kraynak, Michelle Russell, Grace Terrell, Yasmine Lindskog, Nikole Taylor, Lindsay Cooper, Delaney Wells, Anya Idrizi and Jene Wheeless.

Gainesville Dance Center, located at 6755 Leaberry Way in Haymarket, is home to the GDC Competition Dance Company and Competition Pom Team. The center is run by director Tricia Deering, who opened the facility in 2001 before launching the Braemar Dance Center in 2004.
