Gainesville mom gives birth to baby New Year
If child-birthing were a competitive sport, then the two county hospitals would have to call this year a draw.In the race to see who would be the first baby born in 2010, two babies were born at Prince William and Potomac hospitals at the exact same time of 3:39 a.m. last Friday.
At the Hylton Birthing Center in Manassas, Gainesville residents Yuli Esperanza Granados and Nelson Ventura welcomed daughter Valeria Stefany Ventura into the world at the same moment Eduardo and Kelma Lima said hello to their little girl, Sarah, in Woodbridge.
Valeria Stefany Ventura was born at 6 pounds, 12 ounces and was just over 19 inches long.
Her birth is an extra special occasion for Granados and Ventura: the baby is a first-generation, native-born American.
"I am happy," the 29-year-old father said during a phone interview.
A native of El Salvador, Ventura said he has been in Gainesville for four years.
