Haymarket church collects for Haiti

New Life Christian Church is collecting food, medicine and other supplies for Haiti. The congregation, which meets at Battlefield High School in Haymarket and in Chantilly, are asking residents to help out with donations to the Northwest Haiti Christian Mission.

Bob Skiffington, special projects coordinator for the church, said the group's main collection point is in Chantilly but donations will be accepted at Battlefield on Sundays as well.

“If anyone wants to donate but finds it difficult to get to our main collection center in Chantilly, they can drop off their donation at Battlefield on Sunday, Feb. 7 or 14,” he said. “That’s basically our cutoff date.”

Skiffington said he's “very flexible” about donations, however, and other arrangements can be made.

Northwest Haiti Christian Mission is a 501(c)(3) and donations are tax-deductible.

The main drop-off center is at New Life Christian Church, 14550 Lee Road in Chantilly. Collection times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Battlefield High School is located at 15000 Graduation Drive in Haymarket and residents can drop off donations there before and after New Life's 10 a.m. service on Sundays.

“I have been going to Haiti since 2002 and I know how much our support means to Haiti and to those at NWHCM who have been serving the people of Haiti for the past 30 years,” Skiffington said.
