Ellie Cole withdraws from Haymarket Town Council race

April 16: Former Haymarket Town Council member Ellie Cole opted to withdraw her name from the May 4 general election ballot this morning, citing an "unexpected change" in her "personal circumstances."

Cole's withdrawal levels seven candidates contending for the six-member council. All incumbents are running for re-election along with former council member Jay Tobias. Mayor Pamela Stutz is running unopposed.

In an April 16 letter to Matt Abell of the Virginia State Board of Elections, Cole wrote, "I
am writing to inform you that due to an unexpected change in my personal circumstances I have regretfully decided to withdraw my name from the race for a town council position in the town of Haymarket, Virginia election to be held on May 4, 2010." She did not offer further details for her removal.
