Softball loss knocks last Brentsville team out of playoffs
If Brentsville District High School is to bring back any state championships this spring sports season, then they will have to come from individual outdoor track athletes this weekend as all four regional-qualifying teams lost this week. The softball team was the final group to fall, dropping to Broad Run 5-1 after an extensive rain delay last night in Ashburn. The Tigers and Spartans were tied 0-0 going into the top of the sixth inning when freshman Rachel Lee knocked in teammate Abby Carpenter from second base to give Brentsville a 1-0 lead.
But three errors in the bottom half of the inning sealed the Tigers' fate as the girls bowed out of the Region II semi-finals for the third year in a row.
The girls and boys soccer teams lost successive 1-goal matches on Wednesday night in the Region II semi-finals and Western Albermarle defeated the baseball team 8-2 Monday in the regional quarter-finals.
