Brentsville, Battlefield teams win and lose in first round of regions
Correction:
A previous post listed Brentsville's soccer and softball games as being held today (Tuesday, May 26). That is incorrect; the games are scheduled for Wednesday, May 27.
Original story:
The Brentsville and Battlefield softball teams both won Monday in the regional quarter-finals, with the Bobcats downing Stafford 4-3 at home and the Tigers taking out Monticello on the road in Charlottesville 4-3.
But the celebrations did not come without some heartache for both schools. Battlefield's girls soccer team lost in double over-time to Riverbend 4-3, knocking the defending state runner-up out of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Western Albermarle ended the season for Brentsville's baseball team with an 8-5 win Nokesville. Brentsville won the Northwestern District regular season and tournament crowns, thus earning the top spot in the Region II playoffs.
That leaves three non-track teams left for both Battlefield and Brentsville in the playoffs. The Tigers resume action tomorrow in softball and boys and girls soccer with each team playing in the Region II semi-finals. The girls soccer team hosts Heritage at 5 p.m., the softball team plays Broad Run on the road at 6 p.m. and the boys soccer team hosts Potomac Falls at 7 p.m.
The Battlefield baseball and softball teams play in the Northwest Regional semi-finals Wednesday and, for the first time in program history, the girls lax team will be competing for the regional title Wednesday against the top-ranked team in the state Loudoun Valley. The lady Bobcats have already clinched a berth to states by winning last week in the Northwest Region semi-finals.
