Two fatal crashes investigated

Police are investigating fatal crashes in Dumfries and Nokesville.

The first single vehicle crash occurred on May 17, 2009, at approximately 8:07 p.m. At Fuller Heights Road and Perry Street in Dumfries. The driver of a 2002, Hyndai, Accent was traveling eastbound on Fuller Heights Road approaching the intersection with Perry Street and for unknown reasons at this time the driver began to lose control of her vehicle. The driver then collided with a stop sign at the corner of Perry Street and Fuller Heights Road. The driver continued to drive on Perry Street towards a tree line striking a tree. The driver was identified as a 60-year-old woman from Triangle and she died at the scene. The driver's name will not be released pending next of kin notification.

The second vehicle crash occurred on May 18, 2009, around 12:21 a.m. in the 11700 block of Colvin Lane in Nokesville. The driver of a 2001, Chevrolet, Silverado was traveling southeast on Colvin Lane approaching Bluegrass Court when the driver went off to the right side of the road striking some mail boxes. The driver then overcorrected to the left crossing the road way striking a tree. The passenger died at the scene and he was identified as John Y. Roseberry III, 20, of Old Church Road in Nokesville. The driver was identified as a 19-year-old man from Bristow and he was flown to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in this crash. No charges have been filed and the investigation continues.
