Deeds wins Democratic Primary

State Sen. Creigh Deeds is the projected winner of the Democratic Primary. With 96 percent of precincts reporting, Deeds had an unofficial 49 percent of the vote to Terry McAuliffe's 29 percent and Brian Moran's 24 percent.

McAuliffe released a statement saying he had called Deeds to congratulate him.

"A few minutes ago, I called Creigh Deeds and congratulated him on becoming the Democratic nominee for governor," McAuliffe said. "And I told him something that I know everyone in this room agrees with: that he must be the next governor of Virginia, and that I will do everything possible to help make sure he is the next governor of Virginia. Virginia needs Creigh Deeds."
