Water main breaks on Sudley Road
A water main break at the intersection of Sudley Road and Interstate 66 caused major headaches on June 2, tying up rush hour traffic.
Police said they were called to the scene shortly after 6 a.m. after a hole the size of a softball developed in a pipe about 10 feet underground near the Cracker Barrel restaurant on Sudley Road.
The 14-inch ductile iron pipe was installed in the 1970s and services the area north of Interstate 66 as far as Northern Virginia Community College and the Visitor's Center at Manassas National Battlefield Park.
“We haven't had a water main break in quite some time,” said Steve Clark, deputy director of operations for the Prince William County Service Authority.
As of Tuesday afternoon, workers were still trying to repair the damage.
