Woman shoots burglar

On 01-14-09, shortly after 10:00 a.m., the police responded to investigate a burglary in progress call in the 3300 block of Dondis Creek Drive in Dumfries. The victim, a 47-year-old woman, reported that she heard her alarm go off and went to investigate. In the process the victim grabbed a weapon. The victim walked to the basement and observed three males attempting to break into her house. The victim confronted the suspects and they fled from the scene. One of the suspects turned around and began to approached the victim. The victim fired the handgun at the suspect. A patrol officer responding to the scene observed two men walking in the vicinity matching the description given by the initial responding officer. The officer stopped the men. During the investigation, it was discovered that one of the men was suffering from gun shot wounds. The suspect that was shot was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The second suspect is being interviewed. A third suspect remains at large. The third suspect is described as a Black male in his 20's, approximately 5'6" tall, thinly built, and was wearing a gray sweater, light colored pants, and gray shoes. No one has been charged pending the investigation. The victim was not injured during the incident.
