Substitute teacher charged with assaulting student

On 12-14-09, Prince William police began investigating the assault of a student by a substitute teacher. On 12-15-09, the police arrested Robert Newton Kelley, 59, of Box Elder Loop in Gainesville, and charged him with assault and battery. Kelley is accused of assaulting a student when they were in class. The incident occurred on 12-14-09 at Parkside Middle School, 8602 Mathis Avenue in Manassas. The student was identified as an 11-year-old girl from Manassas. The student was not injured during the assault and Kelley was released on a summons.
