Battlefield takes football, volleyball and field hockey openers

Battlefield's varsity football team capped a big opening week for the Haymarket school by becoming the third varsity program to win opening matches after Bobcat field hockey and volleyball teams did the same earlier this week.

The Bobcat boys came back from a 7-0 halftime deficit to score three unanswered touchdowns in the second half against Lake Taylor (Norfolk) Thursday night at home, winning 21-7. Quarterback Bo Revell connected with Bobo Beathard for his first of two touchdowns on a play action pass for a 39-yard score early in the third quarter.

A fumble recovery by Andrew Smith on the ensuing kick off then set up first-and-goal for Battlefield at the LT 7 yard line. Running back Nagee Jackson made quick work of the short field by breaking through two tacklers on his way to a rushing touchdown that eventually put Battlefield up 12-7 as the Bobcats missed an earlier extra point.

Battlefield made good on the 2-point conversion when Revell rolled to his right and hooked up with Chris Wendle at the goal line, giving the home team a 14-7 lead.

The last scoring drive of the game culiminated a minute and a half into the fourth quarter when Revell hit Wendle again, this time for a 20-yard touchdown pass with no one even close to covering him along the Titans' side of the field. A successful PAT provided Battlefield its margin of victory.
