Ingram leads Battlefield with monster backfield attack

Battlefield senior Adrian Ingram may be one of the biggest talents in Virginia football who runs under the radar of college recruiters.

Really, I haven’t gotten any offers at all,” Ingram said after his two-touchdown performance last Thursday night as part of Battlefield’s 29-0 win over visiting Stonewall. “I don’t really know. I kind of want to go to JMU (James Madison University) or Richmond. If all goes as planned, I hope to go to ECU (East Carolina University) but it’s not looking too good right now.”

The reasons why are anyone’s guess. Though he fumbled during a late fourth quarter drive in the Northwest Regional playoffs in 2007, which allowed Woodbridge to regain control of the ball and ultimately win the game, Ingram has been resilient in his four games this season.

In the 2008 campaign, he has averaged 163 yards per game — including a 200-yard performance against Gar-Field in week two — and can be counted on to handle no fewer than 20 carries per outing. He’s no stranger to the end zone either, having crossed the goal line seven times.

He’s always been a great running back, and he’s got great vision,” said teammate Bo Revell, the Bobcats’ quarterback. “And one thing about Adrian is, he’s got one speed, and that’s as hard as he can go every time.”

According to head coach Mark Cox, “He gets more competitive as the game goes on. He played almost every snap on offense and every snap on defense.”

Possibly the biggest gripe Cox has with Ingram is that he wants to play too much.

He’s the kind of kid if I do take him out after running…he wants to get right back in there. It’s almost like we’re going to have to force him to come out more than he has been,” the coach said. “He needs to rest more.”
