Raiders win homecoming 28-20; Thigpen named homecoming king
Damien Thigpen's four touchdowns propelled Stonewall Jackson to a 28-20 homecoming victory over Osbourn Park Friday night in Manassas.
The Stonewall senior running back rushed 31 times for 115 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown scamper on his first run in the first quarter, while his fellow backfield runningmate Sean Blackman pounded the ground 10 times for 78 yards. Blackman showed a penchant for explosive runs as well as he chalked up 48 yards on a single run that immediately led to Thigpen's second touchdown - a 5-yarder - in the first quarter.
Thigpen received some extra kudos at halftime, as he was crowned the 2008 homecoming king next to homecoming queen Karen Juarez.
"Four touchdowns and homecoming king: that's not a bad night for a high school kid," said Stonewall coach Mike Dougherty after the game.
Meanwhile, the defense came alive in the second half and kept OP off the scoreboard. After giving up a 47-yard pass with 1:33 remaining in the game, the Raiders (2-6) forced four consecutive incomplete passes with the Yellow Jackets set up at the Stonewall 13-yard-line.
According to defensive lineman Avery Rushing, the red zone stand "was just us coming together. That was The Wall."
