Gilmore beats Marshall for GOP nod

Former Gov. Jim Gilmore beat out Prince William Del. Bob Marshall on Saturday for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate. Gilmore will now face former Gov. Mark Warner in the race to replace Sen. John Warner (R), who is not seeking re-election.
"I was outspent 14-1," Marshall said as he congratulated Gilmore. "I started Jan. 9 and I came within 80 votes."
After the weighted votes were counted, the final results gave 5,222.13 votes to Gilmore and 5,156.97 to Marshall; only 65 weighted votes separated the two candidates, though Gilmore had been heavily favored to win.
