Bobcats, Tigers each claim regional championship

Brittany Black struck out 13 batters in the Bobcats' 1-0 win over district-rival Loudoun Valley, a team Battlefield had to beat to win the Cedar Run District tournament championship four games earlier.
Out in Nokeville, James Kerns smacked a walk-off game-winning RBI base hit in the bottom of the seventh to lead Brentsville to a 5-4 victory over Broad Run.
Both Battlefield and Brentsville will be hosting quarter-round matches in the state tournament next week.
Meanwhile, the Battlefield girls soccer team lost 3-2 (2-2) after two overtimes in its match up against defending Northwestern Region champion Woodbridge. The Vikings outshot the Bobcats 4-3 in penalty kicks after Battlefield managed to tie the game up on a 50-plus yard kick by Katie Ostrovecky with 19.7 seconds remaining in the first over time period. Jessica Jewell scored Battlefield's only goal in regulation.
The Bobcat girls will be hitting the road for their quarter-final match in the state tournament.
As of this publishing, the final score for the Brentsville boys soccer regional title game against Park View was still unknown.
