New show series in Hamilton

Snickersville rides

The Snickersville Hounds will host a ride May 31 at River Lee Farm at 10 a.m. Refreshments follow the two-hour trail, with jumping and non-jumping groups. Fox Chase jumper shows

Fox Chase Farm in Middleburg will host jumper shows May 31, July 12, Oct. 18 and Oct. 25.

Piedmont trail rides

The Piedmont Fox Hounds hosts a May 24 ride at 9 a.m. from Corotoman. They ride June 14 from Greengarden at 8 a.m.; June 21 from Peace and Plenty at 8 a.m.; June 28 from Buttonwood at 8 a.m.; July 5 from Old Welbourne at 8 a.m.; July 12 from Brookfield at 8 a.m.; July 19 from Blackely Grove at 8 a.m.; July 26 from Dencrest at 8 a.m.; Aug. 2 from Ayrshire at 8 a.m.; Aug. 9 from Fox Covert at 8 a.m.; Aug. 16 from Gun Tree at 8 a.m.; and Aug. 23 from Mt. Airy at 8 a.m.

Local winner at Radnor

Nick Arundel's Monte Bianco (Xavier Aizpuru up) won the $40,000 Radnor Hunt Cup open timber Saturday, beating former champ Miles Ahead (Chris Read) in the 3 1/2-mile stake. Virginia Gold Cup winner Bubble Economy pulled up. Monte Bianco was fourth in the Gold Cup.

Arundel also won last year's Radnor cup, with Seeyouattheevent.


Colonial lists 'chase dates

Colonial Downs has released their steeplechase summer schedule, with total purses of more than $162,000 for hurdlers on offer at the New Kent County track.

Races are slated Sunday, June 15, Sunday, June 29, Sunday, July 13 and Sunday, July 27. Two races are carded each day, with the graded Zeke Ferguson memorial set July 13, Virginia Derby weekend.

Polo season starts next week

The Twilight Polo season kicks off at Great Meadow in The Plains Saturday, May 31, with competition running through Saturday, Sept. 13.

Tickets for Twilight Polo are $20 per car or $10 a person at the gate. There are some tailgating rail spots and boxes available. Gates open at 6:30pm and the first of two matches starts at 7 p.m.

Hull earns C-3 rating

Nokesville rider Kevne Hull earned her C-3 rating from the U.S. Pony Club recently. Hull is a member of the Dominion Valley Pony Club.


Bull Run rides this summer

The Bull Run Hunt will host a series of open trail rides this summer from fixtures around their territory south of Culpeper. The June 7 ride meets at 9 a.m. at Maple Lawn; June 21 at 9 a.m. at Hawfield Grange; July 12 at 9 a.m. at Bending River; July 19 at 9 a.m. at the Simms Place; Aug. 9 at 9 a.m. at the hunt's clubhouse; and Aug. 31 at 9 a.m. at Birmingham Farm. A potluck lunch follows each ride.

Carin Brown to ride for U.S.

Warrenton junior Carin Brown, 15, will represent the local Casanova Warrenton Pony Club, and the U.S., when she rides on a mounted games team headed for international competition in Canada this summer.

Teams include the U.S., hosting Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain and Canada.

CWPC will host a fundraising "fun day" at Great Meadow on May 26.

Other team members are Isabel Brennan of the Mountain Skyline Pony Club, Isabelle Brace of Maryland, Gretal Briand of the Midwest Region and Kathryn Karns of the Carolina Region.
