Top-seeded Brentsville teams sweep district quarter final opponents

Brentsville District had an excellent night in Nokesville on Friday as the first-place baseball, softball and girls' soccer teams all defeated their eighth-ranked opponents in the opening round of the Northwestern District playoffs. All three teams won their regular season district titles and have home-field advantage throughout the district playoffs.

                Baseball
Scott Betterly tossed 88 pitches in four innings to help guide Brentsville to a 9-4 win over Warren County on the baseball field. The senior right-hander struck out seven and gave up three hits, while walking an uncharacteristic seven batters. Relievers John Desilets and Austin Hale gave up a combined one run in three innings pitched.
Justin Weaver gave the Tigers their only long ball of the day as he crushed a fourth-inning delivery over the left field fence for a solo home run. In the first four innings alone, seven members of the Brentsville line up had smacked at least one hit.

                Soccer
Junior Ashley Grant kicked three goals for Brentsville as part of a 6-0 victory against Central. Sophomore Alexandra Flesch and freshman Kelsey Reighard assisted her last two goals, respectively. Senior Julianna Willis booted two goals on the night and senior Jessia Bunner added in one during the closing minutes of the second half. The tough Tiger defense and relentless offense kept the Falcons from attempting any shots on goal of their own during the night.

                Softball
Senior slugger Kaitlyn Barbour cranked two home runs and freshman Abby Carpenter popped another en route to Brentsville cruising over Warren County 18-1. The Tigers benefited from a six-run first inning and kept the hit parade coming until the game was called after the top of the fifth inning.
Sophomore sensation Devin Hileman gave up four hits and one walk in five innings of work, striking out four Wildcats in earning the win.

All three teams will host semi-final games at home in Nokesville on Tuesday, May 20. Each game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
