Incumbents, Edwards, Leake elected to Haymarket Town Council

Mayor Pamela Stutz, vice mayor Ozzie Vazquez, council members Sue Shuryn, Bob Weir and former council member and vice mayor John Cole will all be returning to the Haymarket Town Council this July along with newcomers Susan Edwards and David Leake.Haymarket voters decided yesterday to return all four members running for reelection from the 2006-2008 council along with Stutz, who ran unopposed.
Out of 129(127 in person plus two absentee) votes, Edwards and Cole led the way receiving 85 and 84 votes respectively. Edwards had been highly favored to win one of the six seats, even by those already on council.
Weir, who has been the voice of dissent on several major issues facing the council, came in third place with 75 votes. Street Scape manager Vazquez and Shuryn received 69 and 67 votes. Leake held a comfortable 60-49 margin over seventh place finisher Bryan Garcia to claim the sixth spot.
Stutz received 93 votes. Thirty-one write in ballots were cast against her.
The current carnation of the council will meet in June to vote on next year's budget and an updated version of the town's comprehensive plan. The next council will be seated in July.
