Bobcats earn second place in weekend softball tournament

Pitchers Megan Sutphin and Brittany Black shut out Fluvanna County, Archbishop Molloy and Herndon in the first three rounds of the SportsPLUS Invitational competition. Meanwhile, they helped lead the Bobcats' offense along with junior catcher Courtney Liddle and senior Kaitlyn Sileo to 22 total runs during the first three games.
Battlefield's game against nemesis Broad Run produced considerably more runs than when the two teams encountered each other in a 1-0 affair near the start of the 2006 season. Broad Run went on to win the Group AA state championship last season and is considered the top-ranked team in the Northwestern Region in 2008.
The Bobcats (5-1) head down to Culpeper High School on Tuesday to take on the Blue Devils for their second district game of the season. The game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
