Arrests and incidents reported by police on June 27

Bull Run Mountain Residential Burglaries Arrests
On 06-26-08, the police established a surveillance operation in the Bull Run Mountain area in reference to several daytime house burglaries that occurred between 06-13-08 and 06-20-08.
During the burglaries, the suspects stole firearms, ammunition, jewelry, digital cameras, iPods, credit cards, and collectible coins. During the surveillance operation detectives observed two male juveniles attempting to break into houses.
The suspects ran into the woods when they observed the police. A perimeter was set up and the suspects were taken into custody without incident. Upon searching the suspects, they each were carrying loaded pistols. Both pistols, a .45 cal. semi-automatic pistol and a .380 semi-automatic were determined to have been stolen in previous burglaries. During the burglaries the suspects would break windows or force doors open to gain entry. Over $30,000 in property is estimated to have been stolen.
On 06-26-08, two search warrants were executed on Youngs Drive in Haymarket. Several of the stolen items were recovered during the searches. The two 17-year-old juveniles are being charged with the five burglaries and an assortment of other charges including the following: possession of a firearm by a minor, attempted burglary while in possession of a firearm, possession of  burglarious tools, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, and possession of a stolen firearm. The juveniles are incarcerated at the Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. The investigation continues.
Chief Deane commended the police personnel involved in the arrests for their innovative work.   He said: " The timely action in recognizing this pattern of house burglaries and setting up surveillance resulted in the swift apprehension of these individuals while in the act of breaking into another house. That is crime prevention at its best!"
