Tiger graduates urged to be 'bold,' 'brave' in search for success

Braving the 95-degree heat in polyester caps and gowns, 300 Brentsville seniors became ex-students on Monday afternoon at the school's graduation ceremony.

Led by valedictorian Bolin “Linden” Ye and salutatorian Bradley Joseph Morrison, the Tiger class of 2008 boasted eight summa cum laude graduates this year; Ye and Morrison, along with Dylan Wyatt Baker, Allison Leslie Corish, Jordan Alden DeGayner, Taylor Elizabeth Hurst, Tamara Jean Morse and Joshua Lee Schneider, all had grade point averages of 4.0 or higher.

Seventeen others graduated magna cum laude with GPAs of 3.5 or higher.

Morrison and Ye both spoke on the same theme, encouraging their classmates to overcome the fear of failure.

Be bold,” Morrison advised, reminding graduates not to be ashamed when they try something and fail.

The worst thing that you can do in life is to be so afraid of risk that you stop striving for success,” he said.

Ye echoed that theme, urging her fellow seniors to “be brave.”

Courage is such a simple word, but it is the very essence of accomplishing your dreams,” she said. “To be without dreams is to be without hope. To be without hope is to be without purpose.”
