Connolly leads in early returns

Earlier, with only 22 percent of the votes counted, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerry Connolly held a commanding lead in the 11th District Democratic congressional primary. Connolly led with 57 percent of the vote to Leslie Byrne's 33 percent, Doug Denneny's 8 percent and Lori Alexander's 3 percent.

In the 10th District Democratic race, Judy Feder appeared all but unbeatable with 66 percent of the vote to Mike Turner's 34 percent. Only 13 percent of the results had been tallied, however.

As expected, Rep. Jim Moran was easily holding his 8th-District seat. The incumbent led Matthew Famiglietti with 88 percent of the vote to 12 percent. Twenty percent of the precincts had reported.

In the Republican races, Congressman Frank Wolf was holding 90 percent of the 10th District vote to Vern McKinley's 9 percent. Seventeen percent of the votes had been totalled.

In the 8th District, Mark Ellmore was leading Amit Singh with 21 percent of the votes counted. Ellmore had 55 percent ad Singh had 45 percent.
