Weir rejoins Haymarket Town Council
The Haymarket Town Council unanimously voted to reject the resignation of council member Bob Weir during a continuation meeting Thursday night, allowing Weir to rejoin the council to serve out his term in office.
Weir had resigned from his post during a Jan. 14 special session to discuss the recently-sold Town Center property. His reason was that he thought the council had overstepped its bounds by pre-empting the town Planning Commission regarding variances in the Town Center property.
However, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted 7-1 Tuesday in favor of rezonings that would allow 210 homes to be built within a mile of the town's southern border, despite objections from the Haymarket Town Council. Weir, who spoke at the public hearing, then decided that if the Haymarket Town Council voted to keep him on, he would comply with the members' request so he could have a greater say in dealing with the developments and the Board of County Supervisors.
On Tuesday, the council members agreed that Weir should write a letter on their behalf to County Attorney Ross Horton and the Board of County Supervisors. That letter was to address legal issues surrounding the Haymarket Landing and Somerset Crossing developments.
