Synagogue collects food
Members of the Temple Beth Torah, a synagogue in Centreville, collected about 800 pounds of food on Sept. 22 – Yom Kippur – for Food for Others, a nonprofit that assists low-income people in Northern Virginia.

Celebrating four decades
Residents of Clifton are preparing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their annual town festival on Oct. 7.
Traditionally the festival, created to raise money for local charities, takes place the second Sunday of October, but this year the town is hosting it on the first Sunday instead.
People will be able to ride the Virginia Railway Express train, enjoy crafts, live entertainment, and food, and donate blood.

La Leche League meets
The La Leche League of Centreville and Chantilly is meeting Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Centreville Regional Library to discuss breastfeeding.
Women who are pregnant or nursing are welcome to attend with their children. The library is at 14200 St. Germaine Drive. Call 703-471-7762 for more information.
Locals help fulfill wishes
Laura Wong, of Centreville, and Eric Kominski, of Chantilly, participated in the 24th annual Make-A-Wish Triathlon on Sept. 16.
Participants in the race raised more than $350,000 for the nonprofit that fulfills the wishes of children with life-threatening medical problems, according to a release.
Art show at Chantilly church
Grace Fellowship Church in Chantilly is hosting a free art show Sept. 28, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sew Christmas stockings
A Child's Joy, a nonprofit that fills Christmas stockings for underprivileged children, is hosting a sewing day at the Fairfax Church of Christ in Chantilly on Oct. 13.
The group makes stockings every years and plans to make about 700 stockings this year, according to a release. The sewing period will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
