FCPS College Fair

Fairfax County Public Schools will host its annual college fair Sunday, Oct. 14, 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Fair Oaks Mall. High school students and families are strongly encouraged to attend. Representatives from more than 400 colleges and universities across the United States, including two- and four-year colleges as well as military academies, will be on hand to talk with prospective students. TJHSST open house

Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology will host an open house Saturday, Sept. 29, 8:30-11:30 a.m., to provide eighth-grade students and their parents with information about the school and its admissions process for the 2008-09 freshman class. Families are invited to visit the school’s state-of-the-art laboratories and tour the facilities. Admissions information sessions will be held at 8:45, 9:45, and 10:45 a.m. TJHSST is at 6560 Braddock Road, Alexandria. Call 703-750-8300.

 

Ravensworth ES finds new business partner

Ravensworth Elementary School will hold a partnership signing with its new business partner, Mountain Kim Martial Arts, Sept. 27, 1:30 p.m. in the school gym. Mountain Kim Martial Arts will provide guest speakers to Ravensworth classes, encourage good physical health practices as part of the school’s physical education program and more.

In turn, the school will make school facilities available for company events, invite Mountain Kim Martial Arts employees to school functions and events, and include partnership updates in school newsletters.

 

Gordon named certified trainer

Debbie Gordon, chairwoman of Hayfield Secondary School's Career and Technical Education Department, led a three-day Teacher Cadet training workshop for 22 Virginia educators, which gave her certification as one of four trainers in Virginia. Gordon now serves as the Teacher Cadet trainer for the entire Northern Virginia region.
