Students receive awards
Jennifer Isakowitz and Nejla Izadi of Chantilly High School were two of 10 Fairfax County Public School students who received 2007 Achievement Awards in Writing by the National Council of Teachers of English. Each participant submitted a sample of his or her best writing in any form or genre as well as an impromptu essay on a subject determined by the NCTE.
McDonald receives award
Beth McDonald, of Centreville, was named the winner of the Tuba Artist Division at the 22nd annual Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival in August at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Mich. McDonald is a 2005 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and is currently enrolled at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Levy receives volunteer award
Gabrielle Levy, a Greenbriar West Elementary School kindergarten student, is one of the youngest people to ever receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Levy received the award from Volunteer Fairfax when she was just 4 years old.
Her volunteer projects have included providing school supplies for an entire class of students, making Valentine’s Day cards for children without parents, participating in park and community cleanups, and working on Celebrate Fairfax.
