To the Editor

Fear mongering is exhausting. One day it’s death panels, then illegal immigrants having access to health care, then the length of the bill and now a bogus lie about mammograms. I’m tired of it, and I’m calling the bluff. The Republicans don’t want health care reform, of any kind. Period. If they did, they’d offer solutions rather than scare tactics.

They’d stop defending insurance companies who rake in billions by denying coverage to babies who are either too small or too big and companies who count pregnancy as a “pre-existing condition.” They would stop complaining about losing your ability to choose a doctor, maybe they haven't been to a doctor lately, we've been doing that for many years now.

We need reform that will not tax benefits for our working families. We need employers who will pay to cover their employees or pay a surcharge to have coverage provided. We need a public option to cover those who would fall between the cracks.

When the majority of bankruptcies can be traced to medical bills, we need to get to work to fix the system. I applaud Senators Webb and Warner for standing up for reform with their recent vote. Virginians need them to continue to support Virginia's families as this debate unfolds.
