Haymarkets Elementaries

I want to bring to the attention of the County Supervisors a traffic safety issue effecting the JW Alvey and Gravely Elementary Schools on Waverly Farm Drive in Dominion Valley.

This is a small two lane road that gets severely backed up during drop off and pick up times at JW Alvey. With cars parked on both sides of the road, children and parents crossing and cars doing u-turns it is already a traffic safety issue. However in the Fall of 08 the new Gravely Elementary School that will be opening and with no new road cut to 15 this traffic problem will be exacerbated. If an emergency happens, and parents need to pick up their children there is only this one small road in and out to handle the traffic for both schools and if emergency vehicles need to get to either school during any of the drop off or pick up times it will be hard for them to get there as there will be nowhere for the cars to move over to. Staggering the start times will mitigate the problem some, but the 10 minutes that is in the plans now will not be enough to offset this problem. We need a new road cut between 15, and or Waterfall Road to fix the problem otherwise their could be tragic conseguences.

Sincerely
Patricia Chernitsky
Concerned Parents of Alvey and Gravely Elementary Schools
